Director: Barry Garten
I am an outdoors person. I grew up hunting, fishing, riding bikes, riding horses, surfing and hiking. About the time I turned 11, I rode a mini bike for the first time and promptly crashed in a hay field. I was hooked and started a lifelong love for motorcycles. In my 20’s I graduated from dirt bikes to dual sport motorcycles because I loved to ride motorcycle trails but enjoyed riding on the paved roads to get there. I took a hiatus from riding after getting married an having kids but not long after moving to Roanoke I got the itch to ride again and I never turned back but this time on touring motorcycles so Barb & I could enjoy riding together.
Assistant Director: Mark Anderson
My name is Mark Anderson and I have been a Chapter member since 2013 when I timidly walked in to my first meeting not knowing what to expect. Well I was impressed; the members were friendly and welcoming, and it wasn’t long before I was out riding with people who are safety conscious and ride responsibly; just what I was looking for. Since my first meeting I have been Safety Officer for 2 years and Head Road Captain for 2 years. I am looking forward to 2019. Don’t be afraid to get involved, volunteer, participate and be a member who helps make this a GREAT Chapter.
Treasurer/Building & Grounds: Bob McFarland
I have an older Dyna, which I customized after buying a new Heritage Classic. I got my 1st motorcycle at 17 and got hooked, but took a break after marrying my high school sweetheart (44 years ago) and raising 4 daughters. After living with five women for years, I got ‘back in’ 20 years ago with my 1st Harley, a Sportster then the Harley’s.
Secretary: Tonya Kreyling
I have been in the Chapter for 5 years and have gotten to know a lot of you awesome members. I have 3 adult sons and several fur and feather babies. I have been married to Joe for 21 years and we moved in Roanoke 2013. I have ridden 2-wheels but stopped in 2009 after I crashed. I got back on my own bike after 8 years—on a Tri-Glide. Riding the Tri-Glide relieves stress and has given me so much enjoyment being back on my own bike.
LOH Co-Directors: TNT
I started riding motorcycles 34 years ago when my sister gave me her honda-right before they shipped her overseas. I got my Sportster from Loyd when he was on Shenandoah and I’ve been a charter member of the best HOG chapter in the whole wide world ever since. I take care of 9-12 residents in my Assisted Living Home for a living and I ride my tri-glide for fun and recreation.
I’ve been a Chapter member for 12 years. I have been riding some kind of motor powered 2 wheels since I was about 8. In the 12 years, I started on a Sportster Nightster, 2 Heritages and am now riding a 2018 CVO Road Glide.. To me there is no better therapy in life than being in the wide open with the wind in your face and having that power underneath you.

Food Coordinator: Blake Dingler
My name is Blake Dingler and I’ll be your Food Coordinator for 2019, with a lot of help from my wife of 22 years, Virginia! My first two-wheeler was a 1974 Honda CB350 that I rode to Sarasota, Fla and back and I’ve been riding ever since. My current bike is a 2015 Ultra Limited Lo. We’re looking forward to a lot of fun and miles with the Best HOG Chapter in the World!
Head Road Captain: Rick Hayes
I bought my first Harley in 2010 after a 25 year break from riding and my wife Amy and I joined the Roanoke Valley Hog Chapter shortly afterwards because we wanted to expand our riding experience and meet others with the same interest. Barry has made it clear to all of us that he wants to see the chapter riding more than we ever ave. I have a few ride ideas and I want to help anyone else who has a ride idea to put it together. I will also be reaching out to the chapter for more road captains and helping all of us understand that there’s more to being a road captain than sewing a patch on our vest. I look forward to riding more this year and hopefully the weather will cooperate more than it did last year. Oh yea, I almost forgot, I will need 150 road guards for the Toys for Tots ride!
Membership Officer: Harry Freedy
Born and raised in Baltimore and have lived in SE Georgia and Northern VA before moving to Roanoke in February 2018. I have twin daughters and two granddaughters in NoVA and a son and daughter-in-law here. I’ve spent the last 48 years in law enforcement and investigations. My first HD (and motorcycle) was an 06 Dyna Super Glide. In 2015, I went to Patriot HD looking for a cupholder and came out with a 2015 Road King, my current bike.
Merchandise Officer: Kevin Short
I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was 14, and have been a Chapter member since 2013. I ride a 2017 Roadglide Special. I’m looking forward to being the merchandise officer this year!
Newsletter Editor—Marian McConnell
I began riding Yamahas in 2005 and now ride a 2013 Softail Deluxe “Scarlett O’Harley.” Riding is my #1 passion. I worked 39 years in 4 different VA Medical Centers and am now semi-retired and work part-time at the Roanoke Rescue Mission. I look forward to serving as your HOG newsletter editor.
Safety Officer: Dave Groundhog Courey
I have been riding since about 1972, and have ridden most brands of motorcycles. I retired 15 years ago, and have enjoyed filling many of my days riding my Harley Davidson. I presently ride a 2016 heritage softtail, and I love it. I joined this chapter in 2011 and am proud of the friends I have made in this the “greatest chapter in the whole wide world”.
Social Media/Webmaster: Joe Kreyling
I was born and raised in Northern Kentucky and relocated to Roanoke in 2013. I look forward to keeping the Chapter updated on what’s happening via Facebook and the Chapter website. I currently ride a 2016 Road Glide Ultra and look forward to logging many miles in the coming years.
Volunteer Coordinator: Linda Bosserman
I joined the Chapter in 2010. My 2-wheel life transitioned from a 350 Honda, a moped (my year in France), an 883 Sportster, a Heritage Softail Classic, and currently a Road Glide Special. This year will bring lots of opportunities to get involved with our Chapter, meet new friends, and have fun! There is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes and it’s all done by volunteers. I will have sign-up sheets throughout the year for Coffee & Donuts, serving the Chapter meals, poker runs, and many other events. Please call or email me if you can give a little of your time for your fellow HOG members. Let’s ride ride ride!
